The "Blue Zones" are regions around the world where people are known to live significantly longer and healthier lives compared to the global average. One of the Blue Zones is made up of Seventh-day Adventists in Loma Linda, California. As a Seventh-day Adventist, I deeply value the mental health principles inherent in our lifestyle, reminiscent of those observed in other Blue Zones worldwide.
Our plant-based diet and abstention from alcohol and tobacco not only nourish our bodies but also foster mental resilience. Regular physical activity, strong social bonds within our community, a shared sense of purpose and our Christian faith contributes to our overall well-being, which helps against mental health challenges.
Through these practices, I find strength, clarity and a profound sense of belonging, reflecting the resilience and longevity observed in Blue Zone communities like ours.
